The programme
  • We take a stroll through the city centre, passing by Praça Municipal and Rua da Misericordia, from where we can admire the façades of the Museum and Church of Mercy.
  • We cross the renowned Praça da Sé square before reaching Pelourinho, the most famous historic city centre in Brazil recognised as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1984.
  • We then have some free time before visiting the large Terreiro de Jesus square with its five Catholic churches and typical colonial buildings and heading back to our coach in the lower part of the city through the historical Pelourinho streets.
  • From there, our sightseeing tour of Salvador's beaches starts. We see Dique do Tororó, an amazing lagoon where we can admire the imposing statues of Orixás, divinities from the Afro-Christian religious syncretism. We continue towards Corredor da Vitória as far as the renowned Barra neighbourhood, which develops along the beach named after the port. It is here that the Portuguese founders first arrived and it boasts fortresses dating back to the Portuguese colonial era.
  • Once on the beach of Barra, we stop for a refreshing dip or simply to relax enveloped by the lively Brazilian summer.
  • Before going back to the ship, we make one last stop at Mercado Modelo a local craft centre where we can do some shopping.
