In a nutshell

What is Marseilles really like? You can find out on an open-top bus tour as you discover all the symbols of the city, without taking a step: from the Old Port, where the Greeks disembarked 2600 years ago, to the fishing village of Vallon des Auffes, and the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de La Garde, for a picture perfect view.

Main stops
  • Old Port
  • Vallon des Auffes
  • Notre-Dame de la Garde: photo stop

The programme
  • Discover the main attractions and everything there is to know about Marseilles comfortably seated on the top floor of an open-top bus which will take you for a leisurely drive around the city, effortlessly and with no hurry.
  • Put your earphones on and don't miss a word of the description of this port city founded by the Greeks in 600 BC, named Massalia and designated as Capital of Culture 2013.
  • Set off from the Old Port, or Vieux Port in French, where you'll notice the two forts of St-Jean and Saint-Nicolas, built by the Bourbon king Louis XIV, the Sun King himself.
  • With the wind in your hair, travel on to Vallon des Auffes, a small fishing village that seems frozen in time, with fishermen's huts and small traditional boats known as “pointu”.
  • The bus takes you to the front of Notre-Dame de La Garde Cathedral, a symbol of the city and so precious to the people of Marseilles that they call it “la bonne mère”, the good mother.
  • A photo stop here is essential: the highest hill in Marseilles affords the best view of the Old Port and the city!
