The programme
  • We set off by coach from the charming village of Olden, located in a favourable position near the estuary of the Oldeeva river in the final part of the Innvikfjord, an extension of the Nordfjord which, at 106 km, is the sixth longest fjord in Norway.
  • We reach the picturesque village of Loen nestled at the end of the Innvikfjord and an excellent starting point for excursions to the surrounding glaciers.
  • As we proceed along the panoramic road parallel to the Lovatnet lake with its unmistakeable greenish-blue hues, we admire spectacular glimpses of the surrounding mountains and lush vegetation as far as the Kjenndalen glacier.
  • We get off the coach and walk to the edge of the glacier and to a marvellous viewpoint offering impressive views of one of the branches (approx. 1 km long) of the imposing Jostedal glacier, the largest in continental Europe covering 487 sq km and with a thickness of up to 600 metres.
  • We then return to the foothills of the Kjenndalen glacier where our coach is waiting to take us back to the ship. One return journey, we make various stop off a few times to take photos and recapture this amazing and unmistakeable scenic experience.
