LA SPEZIA AND THE ORIGIN OF THE FARINATA

Your guided tour of La Spezia begins at sea, where else? Walking from the seafront along Passeggiata Morin to the old town, where you'll find the church of Santa Maria dell'Assunzione and the Museo del Sigillo (civic seals museum), up to the Castle of San Giorgio. - Your arrival in the scenic port, sailing across the Bay of Poets, will give you an idea of what you can expect from your guided excursion to La Spezia.
- After a short walk along Via Cavour you'll find yourself amid elegant 19th century buildings, while in the church of Santa Maria dell'Assunzione you can admire a terracotta by *Andrea della Robbia * and other works.
- Walking makes you hungry so why not take advantage of the farinata tasting we've arranged for you? “Fainàa”, in the local dialect, is enjoyed with a glass of Ligurian white wine and a story.
- Farinata is said to have been created by accident on a Genoese ship returning from the Battle of Meloria, in 1284. Oil and chickpea flour were spilled onto the deck, mixing with salt water. After drying in the sun, the resulting flatbread turned into a delicious recipe.
- Proceed on foot to the Museo del Sigillo, home to a private collection of seals from all over the world, dating from the 4th millennium BC, and the Castle of San Giorgio, where you'll find a collection of ancient Roman handicrafts.
