EXPLORE THE NORTHERN COAST AMONG ANCIENT LEGENDS AND UNSPOILT BEACHES
Sightseen, Relax, Less than 1 hour walking, 51
A Jeep tour among ruins that take us back to the origins of the universe, bays perfect for snorkelling and legends of gold diggers. Aruba, the gold island, enchants us with its barren yet poetic scenery.
Ayo Rock Formations
Bushiribana gold smelters
Alto Vista chapel
This Jeep tour makes us discover the fascinating Ayo Rock Formations, where it was once possible to admire the Natural Bridge. These enormous boulders, with carved paintings faded by the sun dating back million of years, form a spectral scenery taking visitors back to the origins of the universe.
The creative and destructive power of the waves manifests itself before our very eyes. Over the centuries, they have excavated the calcareous rock carving natural arches.
We then venture into the unspoilt scenery of the hinterland, along arduous paths that provide us with the opportunity of exploring unique attractions such as the ruins of the Bushiribana gold smelters, the Alto Vista chapel, the California Lighthouse and Boca Catalina. In the 15th and 16th centuries, adventurers came here looking for riches and named one of these islands “Oro Ruba”, i.e. “red gold”, which later became Aruba. The ruins of the *Bushiribana gold smelters stand out against the ocean and tell tales of a land sacred to the Arawak Indians. We do not leave before observing an ancient tradition: we find some rocks, stack them one on top of the other and make a wish. All the gold is long gone, but you never know...
The Alto Vista chapel, whose lines inspire shy submission,is the cradle of the Catholic religion in Aruba and was built by the Indians and Spanish pioneers over 250 years ago. It emanates a sense of calm against the lapping sound of the waves and of the few cacti scattered around.
We then reach Boca Catalina, a dream place - a sandy beach, tranquil waters and a paradise for snorkelling, with palm leaf umbrellas providing shade.
